Equestrian RulesEquestrian Department - General Rules - 2010 Membership - Every Equestrian Department member must be a UCI member in good standing. Stall Assignments - Assignments and changes are made by the Barn Manager in accordance with the By-laws and considered final. Stalls other than assigned stalls shall not be used unless through the express permission of the Barn Manager or stall assignee. Each horse must have a stall assignment. There will be no more than 6 horses at the barn at one time. New Horses - All new horses must have a current negative Coggins on file and vaccinations must be current. New horses will be isolated for a period of up to two weeks, but not less than 3 days unless otherwise approved by the Barn Manager. A date and time for turn-out of new horses with the herd will be set and every effort will be made to ensure that all horse owners are in attendance at the turnout. If an owner cannot be present at this time, that owner may waive his/her right to be present, or may keep their horse in isolation until another time can be set for turnout of their horse with the new horse. During periods of isolation, the owner is responsible for providing water, hay and cleaning manure from the isolation paddock. No stallions are allowed at the Barn. Horses may not wear rear shoes at the barn. Cribbers are not allowed. Horses which present a danger to people or other horses are not permitted. Unacceptable behaviors include continued excessively aggressive behavior toward other horses past the introductory period, biting, kicking or charging at people in the field, barn or stall, and not allowing other horses to eat hay in the field. Number of Mounts - Families may keep up to 2 horses at Ulmstead Barn at one time. Acquisition of horses over the limit is subject to availability of space and approval of the Barn Manager. UCI families may own additional mounts if they are leased by another UCI member. Safety - NO SMOKING ALLOWED IN ANY AREA OF THE BARN FACILITY. Children are not permitted in the barn or hayloft unless accompanied by an Equestrian Dept. member. In accordance with UCI by-laws, horses are not permitted on the beach, piers, dock or any residential property other than that of the owner. All Equestrian Dept. members and guests will abide by the Daily Operating Rules of the barn posted in the stable area. Violations of any rule will result in a verbal warning by the Barn Manager for a first offense, written warning for 2nd offense and suspension or removal of riding privileges for a 3rd offense. Guns, air rifles, firecrackers, slingshots, arrows and like devices are prohibited in the stable and paddock areas. There should be no running, screaming or playing around the horses in the barn. Closed toe shoes and riding helmet should be worn when riding. There is no riding allowed inside the barn or paddocks. Riders must keep their mount at the walk in the parking lot. No one should use the paddocks as a short-cut to the pool area. Only Equestrian Dept members and their guests are allowed in the paddocks and riding ring. Visitors are welcome at the paddock fence and carrots and apples are enjoyed by the horses in moderation, but do not feed grass clippings. Be aware that horses may bite. Feed at your own risk. Owners Responsibilities - Ulmstead Barn is a co-op barn with all general responsibilities to beshared between horse owners. Owners will be assigned a day to feed horses & clean run-in area and paddocks. Stalls should be kept in acceptable sanitary condition. Soiled bedding and manure should be stored in the assigned storage area. Other duties include sweeping aisles, tack-up area and cleaning/filling water troughs as needed. Owners participate in twice yearly general stable cleaning. Owners are expected to help in the work associated with delivery of hay. If anowner cannot be present, suitable arrangements should be made to send a substitute. Equine Health Management - Owners must submit a current negative Coggins yearly to Barn Manager. All horses participate in a regularly scheduled worming and vaccination program which is overseen by Barn Manager. All horses also participate in a fly management program. Barn Manager Responsibilities - Barn Manager upholds and enforces Equestrian Department rules, stall assignments, worming and vaccination programs, coordinates feeding schedule, ordering of hay and manure management, maintenance duties, renews State of Maryland stable license and associated barn inspections, oversees Nutrient Management Plan on file with state, performs soil testing as required and works with state to control soil erosion in paddocks, oversees general barn operation and represents Equestrian Dept. to UCI Board. Dues and Fees - Current stall fee is $500 per year. There are shared expenses for hay, diet supplements, pest management, replacement of tools and equipment. Stall fee is determined by Barn Manager with input from the Equestrian Department members, and approved by the UCI Board yearly. New horse owners buy into existing supplies on a prorated basis. Stall fee is due by February 1st and payable to UCI Treasurer. If stall fee is not paid in full by 15th of month, the owner will be asked to remove his/her horse until fee is paid. The owner will be given two weeks to remove the horse. There will be no refunds of yearly stall fee. However, refunds for unused hay, etc, may be negotiated with barn members. New Barn Members - UCI members in good standing must request a stall in writing (dated and signed) to the Barn Manager. They will be accepted as stalls become available, from the waiting list. Before becoming a member of the Equestrian Department, applicants should read and sign a copy of the rules and UCI By-laws pertaining to the Equestrian Department. |
